Biophilia is a relatively new term. Coined by Harvest University Professor, Edward Wilson. The biophilia hypothesis suggests that humans possess an innate tendency to seek connections with nature and other forms of life. Biophilic design takes Edward Wilsons hypothesis and turns into a concept. The concept is now widely used within the building industry to increase occupant connectivity to the natural environment through the use of direct nature, indirect nature, and space and place conditions.
Bringing plants into the workspace is not an entirely new concept, people have kept small plants on their desks for years. But this new drive is to make it a bigger impact, a holistic part of the other design of the space.
Using “green walls” or “plant dividers” is a totally new and exciting concept.
