Project Overview
Originally built in 1902, Parrington Hall is the second oldest building on the UW campus. Transforming a historic building into a flexible and inspiring learning environment on an extremely limited budget was the challenge presented to our team. The budget also had to cover the expense of moving the Evans School of Public Policy and Governance out of the building for renovations and back in upon completion.
A careful assessment of existing furniture determined which pieces could be reintegrated into the new space, without detracting from the aesthetic in order to adhere to budget. Other existing furniture items were paired with contemporary pieces for a fresh look, while preserving and showcasing their historical character. Collaboration areas, Faculty and Grad student workspaces, and flexible classrooms were all planned to meet the mandate of providing 10-15 years of longevity, while supporting growth and change.
